Wigan Council

Wigan Council is a stock owning local authority in Greater Manchester, owning approximately 22,000 homes. We provide high quality affordable properties for rent which meet the needs of local communities, and we are the largest provider of affordable homes in the borough.

We are guided by the principles of our Deal 2030 with the aim to provide a “Home for All” We are committed to building new homes which meet the needs of our residents, creating a variety of homes across the borough that will cater for future generations, and for our growing numbers of older people. We want our new homes to support the health and wellbeing of residents, to create local economic benefits and to contribute to our climate change commitments.

Since 2010, we have built around 500 new homes for rent across the borough and we have Investment Partner status with Homes England. Our projects are a range of general needs homes, older people’s housing and specialist supported housing schemes.

Our development projects are managed by our New Build and Regeneration team, based within the Growth and Housing service. We have an ongoing programme of new build and regeneration projects. Further details of our programme can be obtained by emailing [email protected].
