Built on the former site of Shevington Community Primary School on Miles Lane, the development included 32 x 1- and 2-bedroom apartments and bespoke communal areas for elderly and disabled residents. The contract included demolition of existing buildings, remediation of the existing site and the construction of a new shared access road.

Meadow View was designed to promote independence, with a communal lounge, library, M4(3) apartments, 2 large lifts and accessible communal gardens with raised planters. The assisted bathroom houses a full room hoist, and futureproofing has been carried out allowing for future installation of dementia friendly door alarms, additional pattresses for handrails and knockout wall panels for easy modifications.

All apartments have achieved an EPC rating B, containing Ground source heat pumps, PV panels, MVHR and upgraded thermal performance of the building fabric both reducing the environmental impact of the building and ensuring the resident bills are kept affordable. Electric vehicle charging points were also installed in the communal car parking area

During the demolition, remediation and construction phases of the project the potential disruption to the local community was always a key consideration. Consultation, regular communication and our social value work was all key to maintaining a positive relationship with the local community

“M&Y’s attention to detail in relation to quality and H&S on site was fantastic. M&Y have gone above and beyond to provide some fantastic outcomes such as donations to local charities, providing a work placement, sponsoring a local football team, and employing local people. We are really grateful of M&Y’s social value commitments and the fantastic extra care scheme that will now provide great homes” Peter Collins, Wigan Council PM
