Walker Simpson Architects are committed to supporting the ICN framework in its objective to deliver high quality sustainable homes and to help Clients create great places for the enjoyment of all through consultation, collaboration and design innovation.

Since 1999, our work has been recognised through a string of national and regional awards, including Manchester Society of Architects’ winners of the President’s Choice Award 2022 and Residential Category and Building of the Year at the 2019 Awards judged by Lord Norman Foster. In 2020 we received a World First Gold Accreditation for a Dementia Friendly public building at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub. Our Travis Street project features on the cover of the new book  “GMC21: Twenty-first Century Architecture in Manchester and Salford” published in August 2023.

We are strongly focussed on community placemaking and developing active wellbeing environments for all, in line with Homes England’s call for the delivery of public health net gain through design.

Our work includes:

  • Extensive use of early stage 3D visualisations as design tools to assist clients in critical decision-making
  • Designs for community regeneration strategies
  • Delivering affordable, zero carbon off-site housing and older living in a variety of settings
  • Building via traditional and MMC construction techniques
  • Energy solutions for Low to Zero Carbon including Embodied and In-use

Recent projects:

  • Currently undertaking a feasibility study for city centre living with 1,100 dwellings in a mix of towers including Affordable apartments in a community setting
  • Merseyside: 2 and 2½ storey terraced houses: completed and occupied 2022
  • Northwest: single and 2-storey dwellings for independent living: completed and occupied 2023
  • Derbyshire: 2 and 2½ storey housing and community church: planning consent
  • High Peak: Town centre 4-storey Apartment block, 3-storey Apartment block, 2 and 3-bed terrace houses, and conversion of Heritage Assets for residential use.
  • Tunbridge Wells – Student Apartments: on-site and due for completion 2024
