John Southworth and One Manchester worked collaboratively on this new and exciting scheme, bringing 7 much-needed new homes to Gorton.  The development, a combination of 2, 3 and 4 bedroomed houses consisting of a mixed tenure of social and affordable rent properties, benefits from off-road parking and energy saving features including Air Source Heat Pumps and EV Charging Points.

This project was particularly inspiring!  Not only was a former Brownfield site transformed into much-needed new homes, but the development was led by a Trainee Site Manager (under close supervision by a visiting Project Manager).  Notably, the site was commended on a visit from Considerate Constructors as outstanding on their visit and surpassed social value targets, too.

Located in Gorton, just four miles from the City Centre of Manchester, the development sits in a convenient location close to the motorway network and public transport.  The area also benefits from local schools, shops and entertainment facilities.

Gorton, itself, offers an array of pursuits and places of interest.  On the doorstep is the historic Gorton Monastery.  Having undergone extensive restoration this impressive, gothic monastery must be seen to be believed, hosting several events and tours throughout the year.

A short walk away from the development is Debdale Park with its extensive walks and sporting facilities on water and land and Gorton caters for thrill-seekers too, where between the months and March and October, weekly motorcycle races take place at Belle Vue Speedway, home to Belle Vue Aces motorcycle speedway team.

Social Value outcomes delivered:

  • Supported work placements in the local area
  • Worked with Healthy Me, Healthy Communities (HMHC) in redeveloping their community garden along with improvement works to their existing facilities.
  • Construction skills roadshows held to inspire a new generation of construction workers.
  • Attended job fares within Gorton, outlining the positive benefits of careers in construction.
