Aaron starts his career in construction thanks to ICN

July 25th, 2022

As part of its ongoing commitment to addressing the  construction skills shortage and its ICN Social Value commitments, in September 2021 Wilkinson Cowan Partnership employed a school-leaver, Aaron Eastwood, to complete the Salford University BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship. Aaron has a full time contract of employment and we mentor him through the 5 year course. The RICS APC process runs concurrently through the final 3 years of the course so within 12 months of graduating, Aaron will be a chartered member of the RICS.

Aaron is engaged principally on ICN projects, and supports his senior colleagues through all stages of the project lifecycle. That can involve a wide range of tasks including but not limited to the preparation of feasibility estimates, drafting pricing and contract documents, assisting with administering construction contracts, undertaking site visits to value construction works in progress, assisting with the handover process at the completion of a project, and undertaking defects inspections.

As his professional competence develops, Aaron will be given greater independence until the point at which he graduates, when he will be given small projects of his own to manage.  Almost 12 months into his apprenticeship, Aaron is showing great maturity and dedication, and we are confident that he has a successful and rewarding career ahead of him.
